Narrative:
It was dark. I called or listened to ATIS. Traffic was using runway 24. I was located in an unfamiliar place at the northwest side of the airport. I was cleared to taxi to runway 24 via across runway 34. I thought I knew the way, as there are several turns. Somehow, I crossed runway 24 and wound up on the opposite side. When I realized I had made a mistake, I called ground and he told me to contact the tower. The tower, of course, advised me of what I had done and was not happy. There was no danger at the time, but there could have been. The txwys were dark and not very well marked. There were also many turns. I learned unless I absolutely know where I am going or the markings are clear I will ask for progressive taxi.

Title: SINGLE PLT UNFAMILIAR WITH TAXI RTE TAXIED ACROSS THE ACTIVE RWY.
Narrative: IT WAS DARK. I CALLED OR LISTENED TO ATIS. TFC WAS USING RWY 24. I WAS LOCATED IN AN UNFAMILIAR PLACE AT THE NW SIDE OF THE ARPT. I WAS CLRED TO TAXI TO RWY 24 VIA ACROSS RWY 34. I THOUGHT I KNEW THE WAY, AS THERE ARE SEVERAL TURNS. SOMEHOW, I CROSSED RWY 24 AND WOUND UP ON THE OPPOSITE SIDE. WHEN I REALIZED I HAD MADE A MISTAKE, I CALLED GND AND HE TOLD ME TO CONTACT THE TWR. THE TWR, OF COURSE, ADVISED ME OF WHAT I HAD DONE AND WAS NOT HAPPY. THERE WAS NO DANGER AT THE TIME, BUT THERE COULD HAVE BEEN. THE TXWYS WERE DARK AND NOT VERY WELL MARKED. THERE WERE ALSO MANY TURNS. I LEARNED UNLESS I ABSOLUTELY KNOW WHERE I AM GOING OR THE MARKINGS ARE CLR I WILL ASK FOR PROGRESSIVE TAXI.
