Narrative:
Lax taxiing for departure runway 25R, taxiing east on taxiway B, ATC ground advised us hold short of C-9. I replied hold short C-9. After stopping and holding short of C-9, a B757 taxied out C-9 proceeding east on taxiway B. The captain then followed the B757 east on taxiway B and crossed C-9 intersection. The relief pilot and myself questioned the captain prior to crossing C-9 intersection, but could not confirm clearance with ground due to frequency congestion. (Captain stated he thought we were to follow the B757.) ground control then informed us that we were to hold short C-9 intersection. They taxied us over to taxiway C at next intersection and resequenced us, for departure. There were no other aircraft on taxiway B or taxiway C9. The sequencing was due to ATC slot release time. Solution do not move aircraft until all crew members agree on clearance.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: MD11 CREW HAD TXWY INCURSION AT LAX.
Narrative: LAX TAXIING FOR DEP RWY 25R, TAXIING E ON TXWY B, ATC GND ADVISED US HOLD SHORT OF C-9. I REPLIED HOLD SHORT C-9. AFTER STOPPING AND HOLDING SHORT OF C-9, A B757 TAXIED OUT C-9 PROCEEDING E ON TXWY B. THE CAPT THEN FOLLOWED THE B757 E ON TXWY B AND CROSSED C-9 INTXN. THE RELIEF PLT AND MYSELF QUESTIONED THE CAPT PRIOR TO XING C-9 INTXN, BUT COULD NOT CONFIRM CLRNC WITH GND DUE TO FREQ CONGESTION. (CAPT STATED HE THOUGHT WE WERE TO FOLLOW THE B757.) GND CTL THEN INFORMED US THAT WE WERE TO HOLD SHORT C-9 INTXN. THEY TAXIED US OVER TO TXWY C AT NEXT INTXN AND RESEQUENCED US, FOR DEP. THERE WERE NO OTHER ACFT ON TXWY B OR TXWY C9. THE SEQUENCING WAS DUE TO ATC SLOT RELEASE TIME. SOLUTION DO NOT MOVE ACFT UNTIL ALL CREW MEMBERS AGREE ON CLRNC.
