Narrative:
While on climb out from st croix (stx), first officer asked for FMS intercept to be programmed. As I was PF, I lowered my attention to the FMS key pad. I looked up for a moment and noticed the IAS at 220 KIAS. Apparently his head went down to the FMS as well, taking attention away from controling the aircraft. The transgression lasted only a moment, but in the future I will verbally state to any first officer flying to continue to do so as I attend to the other duties.
