Narrative:
We were running late coming from the hotel at hpn. First flight out that morning. Stopped at operations at hpn picked up flight plan and went to aircraft on gate. Preflted aircraft, boarded and departed. Dispatch got a hold of us through ZNY. They needed our out and off times because ACARS was not working properly. Had to call for changeover and gave on and in times at ord. Got call from dispatcher at home and he told me we had taken the wrong aircraft. The aircraft we took was X and was the only aircraft at the gate. There were no other company aircraft in sight. The ramp crew had positioned the wrong aircraft for our flight and in my haste I neglected to check the paperwork against the nose number. I saw no other aircraft so I assumed that it was the correct aircraft. I assumed wrong. First clue should have been ACARS would not let us get closeout. I screwed up -- should have taken the time to check nose numbers. Will do so in the future.
