Narrative:
Climbing out of atl to FL270 with VNAV engaged, aircraft started to level at FL270. VNAV capture then VNAV level was annunciated. The aircraft paused at FL270 then started a rapid climb with VNAV level still annunciated. The autoplt was disengaged immediately along with the autothrottles. The aircraft was grossly out of trim (nose up) with trim light on. Approximately maximum altitude attained was FL273 before the climb was arrested. We switched to #2 dfgc and the remainder of the flight was uneventful. The aircraft was written up.
