Narrative:
An aircraft was handed off by me to ZAB and then I needed to coordinate additional information on the aircraft. I was unable to get anyone to answer the shout line. I then seized a dial line and attempted to call the controller. The dial numbers on the overhead chart were not accurate. After 3 calls, the controller I talked to was nowhere near the controller I needed to talk to. This is our first backup if the shout lines do not work. We need accurate dial numbers for all adjacent controllers. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter advised that management had conducted a communication system evaluation and advised that the phone/telephone company landline circuits were corrected. The controller had not checked out all corrections, but the ones he had were correct and terminated at their intended control position at ZHU.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: ZHU CTLR UNABLE TO EFFECT INTERFAC COORD WITH EXPECTED SECTOR, BUT THROUGH ANOTHER UNRELATED CTL SECTOR. CALL LINE AND DEDICATED LINES INCORRECTLY IDENTED.
Narrative: AN ACFT WAS HANDED OFF BY ME TO ZAB AND THEN I NEEDED TO COORDINATE ADDITIONAL INFO ON THE ACFT. I WAS UNABLE TO GET ANYONE TO ANSWER THE SHOUT LINE. I THEN SEIZED A DIAL LINE AND ATTEMPTED TO CALL THE CTLR. THE DIAL NUMBERS ON THE OVERHEAD CHART WERE NOT ACCURATE. AFTER 3 CALLS, THE CTLR I TALKED TO WAS NOWHERE NEAR THE CTLR I NEEDED TO TALK TO. THIS IS OUR FIRST BACKUP IF THE SHOUT LINES DO NOT WORK. WE NEED ACCURATE DIAL NUMBERS FOR ALL ADJACENT CTLRS. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR ADVISED THAT MGMNT HAD CONDUCTED A COM SYS EVALUATION AND ADVISED THAT THE PHONE/TELCO LANDLINE CIRCUITS WERE CORRECTED. THE CTLR HAD NOT CHKED OUT ALL CORRECTIONS, BUT THE ONES HE HAD WERE CORRECT AND TERMINATED AT THEIR INTENDED CTL POS AT ZHU.
