Narrative:
During takeoff roll at approximately 110 KTS, a loud thump was heard. Takeoff was continued, but once airborne, the aircraft would not pressurize. Consulted with dispatch and maintenance control concerning our pressurization problem. Diversion to ewr was performed after discussion with dispatch. Upon arrival at ewr, a hole about 8-12 inches in diameter was found on the lower fuselage about 20 ft aft of the nose gear. Jfk auths reported finding a recessed light cover laying on runway after being notified we had struck something on takeoff roll. It is suspected our nose gear kicked the light cover up to our fuselage during our takeoff roll.

Title: A DC9-50 FLT HAS TO DIVERT TO EWR AFTER BEING UNABLE TO PRESSURIZE. THE ACFT'S NOSEWHEEL HIT AND DISLODGED A CTRLINE RWY LIGHT COVER THAT PUT A 12-20 INCH HOLE IN THE FUSELAGE BEHIND THE NOSE GEAR DURING TKOF AT JFK, NY.

JFK AUTHS RPTED FINDING A RECESSED LIGHT COVER LAYING ON RWY AFTER BEING NOTIFIED WE HAD STRUCK SOMETHING ON TKOF ROLL. IT IS SUSPECTED OUR NOSE GEAR KICKED THE LIGHT COVER UP TO OUR FUSELAGE DURING OUR TKOF ROLL.
