Narrative:
Deicer drove into left wingtip causing damage. While sitting at spot and shutdown for deicing, about 1/2 way through, felt a large jolt on the aircraft. Suspected aircraft had been hit by deicer. Waited for deicer supervisor to contact me via headphone to tell me what had happened. Deicing continued while I had first officer contact maintenance to tell them we suspected we had been run into. Approximately 8-10 mins later, certified deicer said we were clear and clean and could start up and taxi. I said we were not moving south we thought we had been hit. He said he didn't know anything about it. Maintenance finally showed up. A discussion ensued on the ground and maintenance contacted me via headphone and said aircraft was damaged on left wingtip but safe to taxi back to gate. We did. What concerns me is that the deicer supervisor was not made aware immediately of what had happened and let me know as certified deicer was ready to send us on our way. Not until I had questioned it did anything happen. How they could not have known what had happened with the damage that was caused [is beyond me].
