Narrative:
We were apparently cleared to taxi in position and hold by tower, acknowledged by sic without PIC (PF) hearing. There was confusion over status of before takeoff checklist completion, queries by myself (PIC) overshadowed ATC tower communications. I believed that we were cleared for takeoff, which we executed. No challenge to takeoff was made by sic. Tower asked why we took off. We stated a misunderstanding, and tower advised us to remain VFR. Compounding communication problems were PIC (PF) inability to hear sic radio responses through intercom during transmission, inexperience in CRM by sic and lack of knowledge of when to perform checklists in a timely fashion, which distraction crew from critical communications and duties. This could have been catastrophic since greenville has crossing active runways.

Title: FLC OF A CPR CESSNA CITATION TOOK OFF WITHOUT CLRNC AFTER BEING CLRED ONLY INTO POS AND HOLD DUE A MISUNDERSTANDING.
Narrative: WE WERE APPARENTLY CLRED TO TAXI IN POS AND HOLD BY TWR, ACKNOWLEDGED BY SIC WITHOUT PIC (PF) HEARING. THERE WAS CONFUSION OVER STATUS OF BEFORE TKOF CHKLIST COMPLETION, QUERIES BY MYSELF (PIC) OVERSHADOWED ATC TWR COMS. I BELIEVED THAT WE WERE CLRED FOR TKOF, WHICH WE EXECUTED. NO CHALLENGE TO TKOF WAS MADE BY SIC. TWR ASKED WHY WE TOOK OFF. WE STATED A MISUNDERSTANDING, AND TWR ADVISED US TO REMAIN VFR. COMPOUNDING COM PROBS WERE PIC (PF) INABILITY TO HEAR SIC RADIO RESPONSES THROUGH INTERCOM DURING XMISSION, INEXPERIENCE IN CRM BY SIC AND LACK OF KNOWLEDGE OF WHEN TO PERFORM CHKLISTS IN A TIMELY FASHION, WHICH DISTR CREW FROM CRITICAL COMS AND DUTIES. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC SINCE GREENVILLE HAS XING ACTIVE RWYS.
