Narrative:
Took off from sna behind B737-300 (aircraft Y) with instructions to maintain visual separation with B737 at our 11 O'clock position. They were given a left turn across out path. Safety was not in doubt, but TCASII did activate and we did reduce our climb rate momentarily. Had departure issued our turn to the left prior to the B757's turn to the right, the distance between aircraft would never have decreased. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter advised this was a 'one time only' type operation that he has encountered. The reporter advised that the departure controller sounded as if the 2 aircraft were not in the place as he expected them to be.

Title: SA319 ADJUSTS DEP CLB RATE FROM SNA TO AVOID PREVIOUS DEPARTING B733 WHEN SCT CTLR CRISSCROSSES BOTH ACFT DEP RTES.
Narrative: TOOK OFF FROM SNA BEHIND B737-300 (ACFT Y) WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION WITH B737 AT OUR 11 O'CLOCK POS. THEY WERE GIVEN A L TURN ACROSS OUT PATH. SAFETY WAS NOT IN DOUBT, BUT TCASII DID ACTIVATE AND WE DID REDUCE OUR CLB RATE MOMENTARILY. HAD DEP ISSUED OUR TURN TO THE L PRIOR TO THE B757'S TURN TO THE R, THE DISTANCE BTWN ACFT WOULD NEVER HAVE DECREASED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR ADVISED THIS WAS A 'ONE TIME ONLY' TYPE OP THAT HE HAS ENCOUNTERED. THE RPTR ADVISED THAT THE DEP CTLR SOUNDED AS IF THE 2 ACFT WERE NOT IN THE PLACE AS HE EXPECTED THEM TO BE.
