Narrative:
I was the PF and initiated a descent to cross 40 mi west of bowie at FL240. I thought it was FL240 at bowie. Around 50 mi west of bowie, PNF noticed that I would not make the restr and told the controller we would be unable to make 40 mi west of bowie at FL240. Relief was given and a new clearance to cross kagle at 11000 ft was issued. Supplemental information from acn 499936: after descent initiated, as the PNF, I was monitoring the PF/first officer on a cross 40 mi west of ukw (bowie) at FL240, per ZFW on 127.95. Apparently, the first officer had misunderstood cross ukw at FL240 and I didn't catch this as about 50 DME west I noticed this and after a frequency change we told the new sector we were unable 40 mi west ukw at FL240. 'Cancel that and cross kagle at 11000 ft' was his reply. We complied and heard no further, as we were unaware of any traffic conflicts. Verbalizing clrncs in the future should help as well.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: S80 FL MISINTERPS CLRNC, REMINDED BY PIC WHO COORDINATES RELEASE FROM RESTR.
Narrative: I WAS THE PF AND INITIATED A DSCNT TO CROSS 40 MI W OF BOWIE AT FL240. I THOUGHT IT WAS FL240 AT BOWIE. AROUND 50 MI W OF BOWIE, PNF NOTICED THAT I WOULD NOT MAKE THE RESTR AND TOLD THE CTLR WE WOULD BE UNABLE TO MAKE 40 MI W OF BOWIE AT FL240. RELIEF WAS GIVEN AND A NEW CLRNC TO CROSS KAGLE AT 11000 FT WAS ISSUED. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 499936: AFTER DSCNT INITIATED, AS THE PNF, I WAS MONITORING THE PF/FO ON A CROSS 40 MI W OF UKW (BOWIE) AT FL240, PER ZFW ON 127.95. APPARENTLY, THE FO HAD MISUNDERSTOOD CROSS UKW AT FL240 AND I DIDN'T CATCH THIS AS ABOUT 50 DME W I NOTICED THIS AND AFTER A FREQ CHANGE WE TOLD THE NEW SECTOR WE WERE UNABLE 40 MI W UKW AT FL240. 'CANCEL THAT AND CROSS KAGLE AT 11000 FT' WAS HIS REPLY. WE COMPLIED AND HEARD NO FURTHER, AS WE WERE UNAWARE OF ANY TFC CONFLICTS. VERBALIZING CLRNCS IN THE FUTURE SHOULD HELP AS WELL.
