Narrative:

On departure from bfi, clearance was kents departure, helens, helens 2 arrival, departure 119.2. Upon contact with departure, we were given a climb to 9000 ft. Radar contact and a turn to 190 degrees, climb to 15000 ft. Flying copilot dialed in FL190 to the altitude select. Aircraft climbed through 16000 ft prior to pilot noticing. A descent to 15000 ft was initiated immediately. Departure control at the same time was handing us off to center. Center advised our altitude was not correct. We answered that we were correcting. Analysis: receipt of 2 numbers from departure that were 'logical' confused the situation. We were filed to FL190 as a final and the outbound course was 158 degrees. The responsibility rests on the pilot's shoulders and the solution is a greater degree of concentration and attention to communications. Note: aircraft was in VFR conditions, which may have contributed to the above conditions.

Narrative: ON DEP FROM BFI, CLRNC WAS KENTS DEP, HELENS, HELENS 2 ARR, DEP 119.2. UPON CONTACT WITH DEP, WE WERE GIVEN A CLB TO 9000 FT. RADAR CONTACT AND A TURN TO 190 DEGS, CLB TO 15000 FT. FLYING COPLT DIALED IN FL190 TO THE ALT SELECT. ACFT CLBED THROUGH 16000 FT PRIOR TO PLT NOTICING. A DSCNT TO 15000 FT WAS INITIATED IMMEDIATELY. DEP CTL AT THE SAME TIME WAS HANDING US OFF TO CTR. CTR ADVISED OUR ALT WAS NOT CORRECT. WE ANSWERED THAT WE WERE CORRECTING. ANALYSIS: RECEIPT OF 2 NUMBERS FROM DEP THAT WERE 'LOGICAL' CONFUSED THE SIT. WE WERE FILED TO FL190 AS A FINAL AND THE OUTBOUND COURSE WAS 158 DEGS. THE RESPONSIBILITY RESTS ON THE PLT'S SHOULDERS AND THE SOLUTION IS A GREATER DEG OF CONCENTRATION AND ATTN TO COMS. NOTE: ACFT WAS IN VFR CONDITIONS, WHICH MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THE ABOVE CONDITIONS.
