Narrative:
I was PF, flying a citation 650 recently departed from sus. We were at 5000 ft MSL and on radar vectors from st louis departure. ATC advised a climb to what both the captain and I thought was 7000 ft. The captain (PNF) responded 'climb to 7000 ft,' then turned the preselect to 7000 ft. I acknowledged the climb to 7000 ft and proceeded to climb. Approximately 6500 ft, ATC advised traffic at 1 O'clock position, 7000 ft. We observed a jet aircraft in fairly close proximity and I began to arrest the climb as the captain contacted ATC to confirm our 7000 ft assignment. ATC advised that our altitude was to be 6000 ft so I rapidly descended to 6000 ft and continued the flight without incident.

Title: FLC OF A C650 OVERSHOT INTERMEDIATE CLB DEP ALT CAUSING CONFLICT WITH ANOTHER ACFT ABOVE.
Narrative: I WAS PF, FLYING A CITATION 650 RECENTLY DEPARTED FROM SUS. WE WERE AT 5000 FT MSL AND ON RADAR VECTORS FROM ST LOUIS DEP. ATC ADVISED A CLB TO WHAT BOTH THE CAPT AND I THOUGHT WAS 7000 FT. THE CAPT (PNF) RESPONDED 'CLB TO 7000 FT,' THEN TURNED THE PRESELECT TO 7000 FT. I ACKNOWLEDGED THE CLB TO 7000 FT AND PROCEEDED TO CLB. APPROX 6500 FT, ATC ADVISED TFC AT 1 O'CLOCK POS, 7000 FT. WE OBSERVED A JET ACFT IN FAIRLY CLOSE PROX AND I BEGAN TO ARREST THE CLB AS THE CAPT CONTACTED ATC TO CONFIRM OUR 7000 FT ASSIGNMENT. ATC ADVISED THAT OUR ALT WAS TO BE 6000 FT SO I RAPIDLY DSNDED TO 6000 FT AND CONTINUED THE FLT WITHOUT INCIDENT.
