Narrative:

Because of an interruption in the sequence of his cockpit duties the first officer did not arm the entry way door emergency slides before pushback started. When noticed I elected to wait until the aircraft stopped before having him arm the slides. In the meanwhile a jumpseater opened the cockpit door stating that the slides were not armed. The seatbelt sign was on. I had the first officer escort the jumpseater to the rear area and seat and arm the doors. The checklist had been followed. The item read and responded to ('doors/slides' -- 'closed/slides') but had looked at item and responded without noting that neither door was armed. Caught this, but aircraft was already moving. Elected to wait until aircraft stopped before solving the problem.
