Narrative:

Following a short disrupted layover in ric, flight from ric to dtw, 10 mi out at 12000 ft. I was the PF and the PNF was handling the radio. The PNF advised that the controller had cleared to an altitude and heading to 7000 ft at 240 degrees. The initial clearance came through while I was involved with other flight materials to my right. In to this change TCASII yielded a TA for traffic. Almost immediately we got an RA commanding 'vertical climb' which was instituted within seconds after disengaging autoplt. Out of right side window, I saw at 1000-2000 ft the subject of initial TCASII. Prior to attaining an altitude of 12000 ft, we received a 'clear of conflict' from TCASII. Remainder of flight was routine. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that she was surprised to have a TCASII RA and then subsequently observe a large air carrier aircraft whose altitude she was cleared to descend through in relative close proximity without any TA from ATC. She was flying a DC9 type aircraft.

Title: DC9 FO DISCONNECTED AUTOPLT AND CLBED DURING DSCNT IN RESPONSE TO A TCASII RA. THE TCASII SHOWED ALL CLR AT THE SAME TIME THAT A LARGE ACR ACFT WAS SIGHTED ON THE R SIDE OF THE ACFT.

Narrative: FOLLOWING A SHORT DISRUPTED LAYOVER IN RIC, FLT FROM RIC TO DTW, 10 MI OUT AT 12000 FT. I WAS THE PF AND THE PNF WAS HANDLING THE RADIO. THE PNF ADVISED THAT THE CTLR HAD CLRED TO AN ALT AND HDG TO 7000 FT AT 240 DEGS. THE INITIAL CLRNC CAME THROUGH WHILE I WAS INVOLVED WITH OTHER FLT MATERIALS TO MY R. IN TO THIS CHANGE TCASII YIELDED A TA FOR TFC. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY WE GOT AN RA COMMANDING 'VERT CLB' WHICH WAS INSTITUTED WITHIN SECONDS AFTER DISENGAGING AUTOPLT. OUT OF R SIDE WINDOW, I SAW AT 1000-2000 FT THE SUBJECT OF INITIAL TCASII. PRIOR TO ATTAINING AN ALT OF 12000 FT, WE RECEIVED A 'CLR OF CONFLICT' FROM TCASII. REMAINDER OF FLT WAS ROUTINE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT SHE WAS SURPRISED TO HAVE A TCASII RA AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY OBSERVE A LARGE ACR ACFT WHOSE ALT SHE WAS CLRED TO DSND THROUGH IN RELATIVE CLOSE PROX WITHOUT ANY TA FROM ATC. SHE WAS FLYING A DC9 TYPE ACFT.
