Narrative:
While being vectored to an approach for runway 18R at dfw, approach changed our runway to runway 13R. Approach gave us a heading of 110 degrees to intercept the runway 13R localizer. ATIS had no information about approachs to runway 13R -- it only said ILS runway 18R, runway 18L, runway 17. While changing approachs in the electronics and approach plates and setting up for the new approach, we were told by the flight attendant in charge that passenger were in need of electric carts and wheel chairs. This was at about the same time that we were intercepting the runway 13R localizer. In the mild rush to get set up for the new approach, the front course setting of the center ILS was not set to 138 degrees rather it was set to the inbound course for runway 18R which is 174 degrees. Upon turning toward the localizer course, the aircraft turned past the inbound course to a heading of approximately 170 degrees upon which we were asked by approach what our heading was. We told approach 170 degrees and correcting. We again received a 110 degree heading to intercept the localizer. We did and landed. Contributing factors: 1) not having runway 13R in use on ATIS. 2) distraction by flight attendant of PNF, missed backup. 3) strong south wind 180 degrees at 50 KTS. 4) shortness of time to switch approachs.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLC OF A B767-300 WENT PAST THE INBOUND LOC COURSE DUE TO THE WRONG RWY LOC COURSE SETTING.
Narrative: WHILE BEING VECTORED TO AN APCH FOR RWY 18R AT DFW, APCH CHANGED OUR RWY TO RWY 13R. APCH GAVE US A HDG OF 110 DEGS TO INTERCEPT THE RWY 13R LOC. ATIS HAD NO INFO ABOUT APCHS TO RWY 13R -- IT ONLY SAID ILS RWY 18R, RWY 18L, RWY 17. WHILE CHANGING APCHS IN THE ELECTRONICS AND APCH PLATES AND SETTING UP FOR THE NEW APCH, WE WERE TOLD BY THE FLT ATTENDANT IN CHARGE THAT PAX WERE IN NEED OF ELECTRIC CARTS AND WHEEL CHAIRS. THIS WAS AT ABOUT THE SAME TIME THAT WE WERE INTERCEPTING THE RWY 13R LOC. IN THE MILD RUSH TO GET SET UP FOR THE NEW APCH, THE FRONT COURSE SETTING OF THE CTR ILS WAS NOT SET TO 138 DEGS RATHER IT WAS SET TO THE INBOUND COURSE FOR RWY 18R WHICH IS 174 DEGS. UPON TURNING TOWARD THE LOC COURSE, THE ACFT TURNED PAST THE INBOUND COURSE TO A HDG OF APPROX 170 DEGS UPON WHICH WE WERE ASKED BY APCH WHAT OUR HDG WAS. WE TOLD APCH 170 DEGS AND CORRECTING. WE AGAIN RECEIVED A 110 DEG HDG TO INTERCEPT THE LOC. WE DID AND LANDED. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: 1) NOT HAVING RWY 13R IN USE ON ATIS. 2) DISTR BY FLT ATTENDANT OF PNF, MISSED BACKUP. 3) STRONG S WIND 180 DEGS AT 50 KTS. 4) SHORTNESS OF TIME TO SWITCH APCHS.
