Narrative:
While taxiing for takeoff on runway 23 on taxiway H, we were issued clearance to taxi on to hold on runway 23. After acknowledging the clearance, we continued across the hold short line at taxiway Q and on to the runway for the full length. The controller then told us that we were not given clearance for the use of taxiway 1 and that he would have to file paperwork on us. We were then cleared for takeoff and took off uneventfully. We later asked for the supervisor's phone number and called him in-flight. The supervisor told us that they didn't want us to use taxiway Q without asking, but it was a local issue and no violation occurred or would be reported. He also said that it has been a continuing problem for them. This could be avoided in the future with a bit clrer clearance from the controllers and maybe a sign at taxiway Q.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B733 UTILIZES WRONG TXWY AT CYYZ, FIRST WARNED, THEN ADVISED BY SUPVR OF ONGOING PROB.
Narrative: WHILE TAXIING FOR TKOF ON RWY 23 ON TXWY H, WE WERE ISSUED CLRNC TO TAXI ON TO HOLD ON RWY 23. AFTER ACKNOWLEDGING THE CLRNC, WE CONTINUED ACROSS THE HOLD SHORT LINE AT TXWY Q AND ON TO THE RWY FOR THE FULL LENGTH. THE CTLR THEN TOLD US THAT WE WERE NOT GIVEN CLRNC FOR THE USE OF TXWY 1 AND THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO FILE PAPERWORK ON US. WE WERE THEN CLRED FOR TKOF AND TOOK OFF UNEVENTFULLY. WE LATER ASKED FOR THE SUPVR'S PHONE NUMBER AND CALLED HIM INFLT. THE SUPVR TOLD US THAT THEY DIDN'T WANT US TO USE TXWY Q WITHOUT ASKING, BUT IT WAS A LCL ISSUE AND NO VIOLATION OCCURRED OR WOULD BE RPTED. HE ALSO SAID THAT IT HAS BEEN A CONTINUING PROB FOR THEM. THIS COULD BE AVOIDED IN THE FUTURE WITH A BIT CLRER CLRNC FROM THE CTLRS AND MAYBE A SIGN AT TXWY Q.
