Narrative:
Aircraft arrived at the gate from the maintenance hangar after a terminal check. Aircraft was visually inspected by maintenance after arrival. I then completed a visual walkaround and found everything normal. After arrival at abc, [during] my walkaround of the aircraft, I found the trailing edge of the right elevator damaged. Further inspection found considerable damage on the top of the elevator. No damage was visible at XXX during preflight by both myself and maintenance. Aircraft was grounded until elevator was replaced. Maintenance at ZZZ said the plane was struck by a stair truck, but didn't know when. The area of damage would not be visible from the ground from any position. The missing chunk of elevator apparently came off after air pressure was applied during flight. No control indications of vibration were noted.

Title: A B757-200 DURING PREFLT CHK FO DISCOVERED THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE R ELEVATOR DAMAGED. MAINT IN ZZZ RPTED DAMAGE CAUSED BY A STAIR TRUCK, BUT DON'T KNOW DATE OR TIME.
Narrative: ACFT ARRIVED AT THE GATE FROM THE MAINT HANGAR AFTER A TERMINAL CHK. ACFT WAS VISUALLY INSPECTED BY MAINT AFTER ARR. I THEN COMPLETED A VISUAL WALKAROUND AND FOUND EVERYTHING NORMAL. AFTER ARR AT ABC, [DURING] MY WALKAROUND OF THE ACFT, I FOUND THE TRAILING EDGE OF THE R ELEVATOR DAMAGED. FURTHER INSPECTION FOUND CONSIDERABLE DAMAGE ON THE TOP OF THE ELEVATOR. NO DAMAGE WAS VISIBLE AT XXX DURING PREFLT BY BOTH MYSELF AND MAINT. ACFT WAS GNDED UNTIL ELEVATOR WAS REPLACED. MAINT AT ZZZ SAID THE PLANE WAS STRUCK BY A STAIR TRUCK, BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHEN. THE AREA OF DAMAGE WOULD NOT BE VISIBLE FROM THE GND FROM ANY POS. THE MISSING CHUNK OF ELEVATOR APPARENTLY CAME OFF AFTER AIR PRESSURE WAS APPLIED DURING FLT. NO CTL INDICATIONS OF VIBRATION WERE NOTED.
