Narrative:
I was the captain of the flight and in my preflight duties prior to departure, I reviewed the log book for entries and an MEL item that was on the flight paperwork. I noted there were two items written up and the ACARS message that the previous crew had submitted. The ACARS message was laid over the top of the action taken blocks. I missed that the entries had not been signed off at that time. My attention focused on the MEL item concerning the left forward fuel boost pump. It had certain fuel requirements then, I picked up my MEL to investigate what each of the requirements were. They concerned the amount of fuel required for takeoff and landing with an inoperative fuel boost pump. The fuel load was required for takeoff. With the fuel burn planned, I verified that the required amount would be on board for landing. The agents boarded early and we departed early. I did not notice the open items from the cabin until I was ready to make an entry for our flight prior to landing in sna. Ironically, the item that the flight attendant had for us was the same as was in the book. It was about chewing gum on the tray table at seat 17C. The other item was that the power port at seat 1B did not work. I briefed the mechanic at sna on my error and the items. He properly complete the log book. My attention was diverted and I missed that the open log book items were not signed off.
