Narrative:
Descending through FL250, autoplt #1 began increasing nose down pitch, to level off at FL240. At about FL245, vertical speed was about 3500 FPM down and increasing. The captain disconnected the autoplt using the disconnect button on his yoke, but the autoplt did not disconnect, and we were descending at about 5000 FPM when captain manually pulled back on yoke to disconnect autoplt. We leveled off at FL237 and climbed back to assigned altitude of FL240. We then told ZJX of the malfunction and continued to land at mco.
