Narrative:
Refusal of aircraft for mechanical condition. My review of the logbook showed a discrepancy that was deferred by MEL 31-02B. The discrepancy was entered in the logbook on mar/wed/03 and deferred on mar/wed/03. My examination of the MEL shows relief for 3 flight days only. The logbook showed flight entries for mar/wed/03 through mar/fri/03 timeframe. Not wanting to jeopardize my FAA license, I initially rejected the aircraft during a discussion with the on-scene mechanic. A maintenance supervisor then responded to the jet bridge where we engaged each other in point-counterpoint. To insure that I had the correct interpretation, that this aircraft if flown without repairs on apr/xa/03, a fourth flight day, would be in violation of the MEL. I called the duty chief pilot, twice, and I verbatimed the verbiage in the MEL to get his response. Chief pilot supported my call to refuse the aircraft. Crew then went to man substitute equipment.
