Narrative:
I was the PNF, in the right seat, giving an IOE to a new captain, the PF. We were given discretion to FL240. Shortly after beginning our descent, we were told to amend our altitude and maintain FL270. The PF changed the altitude on the MCP to FL270. I read the clearance back to center and we both pointed at the altitude window per our procedures. I believe we were just passing FL300 at this point. As we were leveling at FL270, center told us to climb and maintain FL280, then he repeated himself and told us to expedite. Apparently, there was a corporate jet off our nose, at FL270, at least over 5 mi, but closing. No TCASII warning received. We climbed as instructed, and later queried center as to what happened. He told us we had 'said all the right things,' and not to worry about it. The IOE captain and myself are certain we were given a clearance to FL270. We were also deviating off course to avoid WX buildups.

Title: RECEIVING DSCNT CLRNC AND REACHING FL270, ZMA ISSUES THE B737 FLT CREW AN EXPEDITED CLB CLRNC TO FL280 DUE TO CONVERGING CORPORATE JET TFC AT FL270.
Narrative: I WAS THE PNF, IN THE R SEAT, GIVING AN IOE TO A NEW CAPT, THE PF. WE WERE GIVEN DISCRETION TO FL240. SHORTLY AFTER BEGINNING OUR DSCNT, WE WERE TOLD TO AMEND OUR ALT AND MAINTAIN FL270. THE PF CHANGED THE ALT ON THE MCP TO FL270. I READ THE CLRNC BACK TO CTR AND WE BOTH POINTED AT THE ALT WINDOW PER OUR PROCS. I BELIEVE WE WERE JUST PASSING FL300 AT THIS POINT. AS WE WERE LEVELING AT FL270, CTR TOLD US TO CLB AND MAINTAIN FL280, THEN HE REPEATED HIMSELF AND TOLD US TO EXPEDITE. APPARENTLY, THERE WAS A CORPORATE JET OFF OUR NOSE, AT FL270, AT LEAST OVER 5 MI, BUT CLOSING. NO TCASII WARNING RECEIVED. WE CLBED AS INSTRUCTED, AND LATER QUERIED CTR AS TO WHAT HAPPENED. HE TOLD US WE HAD 'SAID ALL THE RIGHT THINGS,' AND NOT TO WORRY ABOUT IT. THE IOE CAPT AND MYSELF ARE CERTAIN WE WERE GIVEN A CLRNC TO FL270. WE WERE ALSO DEVIATING OFF COURSE TO AVOID WX BUILDUPS.
