Narrative:

In the climb, phx departure told us not to exceed 190 KIAS, due to company traffic in front of us on the same route. As I leveled off at 13000 ft MSL, I accelerated to about 210 KIAS. We both thought the controller only wanted the airspeed of 190 KIAS in the climb. About 30 seconds after we leveled off, the controller asked us to not exceed 190 KIAS. I then slowed the aircraft. To correct this from happening again we will be more alert to ATC. However, normally most crews expect slow-downs and speed requirements on arrival, but not so much on departing the airport. On departure, ATC could say 'maintain 190 KIAS until further advised.' this might help remind crews.

Title: BE1900 FLT CREW EXCEEDS THE DEP SPD AS ASSIGNED BY ATC OUT OF PHX, AZ.

Narrative: IN THE CLB, PHX DEP TOLD US NOT TO EXCEED 190 KIAS, DUE TO COMPANY TFC IN FRONT OF US ON THE SAME RTE. AS I LEVELED OFF AT 13000 FT MSL, I ACCELERATED TO ABOUT 210 KIAS. WE BOTH THOUGHT THE CTLR ONLY WANTED THE AIRSPD OF 190 KIAS IN THE CLB. ABOUT 30 SECONDS AFTER WE LEVELED OFF, THE CTLR ASKED US TO NOT EXCEED 190 KIAS. I THEN SLOWED THE ACFT. TO CORRECT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN WE WILL BE MORE ALERT TO ATC. HOWEVER, NORMALLY MOST CREWS EXPECT SLOW-DOWNS AND SPD REQUIREMENTS ON ARR, BUT NOT SO MUCH ON DEPARTING THE ARPT. ON DEP, ATC COULD SAY 'MAINTAIN 190 KIAS UNTIL FURTHER ADVISED.' THIS MIGHT HELP REMIND CREWS.
