Narrative:

The DME 5.0 fix on the boston VOR DME or GPS runway 15R approach chart is labeled 'haavd' on the nos chart and 'inter' on the commercial chart. I notified the commercial flight information and design department. It was their error. The commercial chart publication will reissue the chart with the correct name. However, this points out an inadequacy in the system. FAA NOTAMS don't cover commercial charting errors -- charts which are widely used. Commercial chart pubs should report these errors to the FAA, who issues an immediate NOTAM. The difficulty in the reported situation is that for pilots, such as airline pilots, flying with an FMC, the FMC used 'haavd' for the fix, the commercial charts used for the approach used 'inter.' this led to some confusion in the cockpit. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated that she was an air carrier simulator technician with pilot experience. The simulator flight crew recognized an approach abort due to a confliction with the company FMS program cross referencing the intersection name with the DOD (departure of defense) FLIP approach intersection name. The technician found problem and notified the commercial chart publication. The instn name error was not corrected on the next publication. The reporter expected the government chart publication would review and provide oversite to commercial chart publication's. Analyst called commercial chart publisher who advised that a correction would be made on the next chart cycle. Charting cycle for this publication is every two weeks.

Title: ACR TECHNICIAN DISCOVERS COMMERCIAL INTXN CHARTING ERROR THAT IS CORRECT IN THE GOV FLT INFO PUB (FLIP). COMMERCIAL CHART ERROR CAUSED ACR FLT SIMULATOR CERTIFICATION ABORT.

Narrative: THE DME 5.0 FIX ON THE BOSTON VOR DME OR GPS RWY 15R APCH CHART IS LABELED 'HAAVD' ON THE NOS CHART AND 'INTER' ON THE COMMERCIAL CHART. I NOTIFIED THE COMMERCIAL FLT INFO AND DESIGN DEPT. IT WAS THEIR ERROR. THE COMMERCIAL CHART PUB WILL REISSUE THE CHART WITH THE CORRECT NAME. HOWEVER, THIS POINTS OUT AN INADEQUACY IN THE SYS. FAA NOTAMS DON'T COVER COMMERCIAL CHARTING ERRORS -- CHARTS WHICH ARE WIDELY USED. COMMERCIAL CHART PUBS SHOULD RPT THESE ERRORS TO THE FAA, WHO ISSUES AN IMMEDIATE NOTAM. THE DIFFICULTY IN THE RPTED SIT IS THAT FOR PLTS, SUCH AS AIRLINE PLTS, FLYING WITH AN FMC, THE FMC USED 'HAAVD' FOR THE FIX, THE COMMERCIAL CHARTS USED FOR THE APCH USED 'INTER.' THIS LED TO SOME CONFUSION IN THE COCKPIT. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THAT SHE WAS AN ACR SIMULATOR TECHNICIAN WITH PLT EXPERIENCE. THE SIMULATOR FLT CREW RECOGNIZED AN APCH ABORT DUE TO A CONFLICTION WITH THE COMPANY FMS PROGRAM CROSS REFING THE INTXN NAME WITH THE DOD (DEP OF DEFENSE) FLIP APCH INTXN NAME. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND PROB AND NOTIFIED THE COMMERCIAL CHART PUB. THE INSTN NAME ERROR WAS NOT CORRECTED ON THE NEXT PUB. THE RPTR EXPECTED THE GOV CHART PUB WOULD REVIEW AND PROVIDE OVERSITE TO COMMERCIAL CHART PUB'S. ANALYST CALLED COMMERCIAL CHART PUBLISHER WHO ADVISED THAT A CORRECTION WOULD BE MADE ON THE NEXT CHART CYCLE. CHARTING CYCLE FOR THIS PUB IS EVERY TWO WEEKS.
