Narrative:
TCASII event. While climbing to 17000 ft as assigned by ATC, flight received advisory on VFR traffic (a kingair) at our 12 O'clock position converging at 8 mi. The controller then advised us to level off at 16000 ft. The flight was passing through 16100 ft when the amended clearance was issued. Immediately we received a TA on TCASII followed by an RA to descend on this traffic. Flight crew descended, complied and performed an evasive maneuver to miss the VFR traffic. Advised ATC of RA. I, as captain, notified ATC that flight was clear of conflict and was resuming climb to 16000 ft. ATC reclred flight to 17000 ft. Controller advised us that he was 'a little late' in advising us of the VFR traffic. Flight continued to pit with no further problems. We missed VFR aircraft by less than 1 mi and 400 ft. A little close.

Title: POTENTIAL CONFLICT OCCURS WHEN ATC IS LATE IN ISSUING AN AMENDED CLRNC ALT CHANGE TO A CLBING SF-340 THAT WAS COMING INTO CONFLICT WITH OPPOSITE DIRECTION KINGAIR NEAR PKB, WV.
Narrative: TCASII EVENT. WHILE CLBING TO 17000 FT AS ASSIGNED BY ATC, FLT RECEIVED ADVISORY ON VFR TFC (A KINGAIR) AT OUR 12 O'CLOCK POS CONVERGING AT 8 MI. THE CTLR THEN ADVISED US TO LEVEL OFF AT 16000 FT. THE FLT WAS PASSING THROUGH 16100 FT WHEN THE AMENDED CLRNC WAS ISSUED. IMMEDIATELY WE RECEIVED A TA ON TCASII FOLLOWED BY AN RA TO DSND ON THIS TFC. FLT CREW DSNDED, COMPLIED AND PERFORMED AN EVASIVE MANEUVER TO MISS THE VFR TFC. ADVISED ATC OF RA. I, AS CAPT, NOTIFIED ATC THAT FLT WAS CLR OF CONFLICT AND WAS RESUMING CLB TO 16000 FT. ATC RECLRED FLT TO 17000 FT. CTLR ADVISED US THAT HE WAS 'A LITTLE LATE' IN ADVISING US OF THE VFR TFC. FLT CONTINUED TO PIT WITH NO FURTHER PROBS. WE MISSED VFR ACFT BY LESS THAN 1 MI AND 400 FT. A LITTLE CLOSE.
