Narrative:
Instrument student was completing NDB runway 14 at gai, md. Position calls were made on CTAF. Calls were heard on CTAF advising an aircraft (from another aircraft) that gai has a r-hand pattern for runway 32. I, the cfii, as we were about to turn left to a right crosswind, observed the other aircraft (climbing) on our left on a collision course. I dove our aircraft rapidly on a straight course (approximately 135 degrees) approximately 200 ft. The instrument student's comment was he saw the underside of an airplane go by. The other aircraft did not answer CTAF calls and left the area. There was a club fly-in at fdk, 18 NM away, and there were probably many aircraft in the area not familiar with gai runway 32. Pilots not familiar with the area should obtain advisories and if breaking off an approach should not be so stupid as to go 'head-to-head' with traffic. Maybe I shouldn't fly at all when there is an air show or fly-in at a close-by (18 NM) airport!

Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT, WITH TRAINEE, OF A C172 TOOK OVER CTL OF ACFT UPON OBSERVING A SINGLE ENG BEECH ACFT COMING FROM THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION, AND AGAINST THE R-HAND TFC FLOW AT AN UNCTLED ARPT.
