Narrative:

We were on vectors for left downwind runway 28L sfo. B757 vectors for runway 28R. Approach turned us in and told us to keep the speed up as we were #1 for runway 28L and he wanted us in front of the B757. Assigned 180 KTS or greater to brijj, B757 was asked to slow to 135 KTS. We flew 200 KTS to brijj and stayed left of centerline to maintain aircraft separation. B757 never appeared to slow and continued to stay ahead of us as he angled in from the bay. 1000 ft AGL both aircraft were approaching each runway almost abeam each other. We elected to go around as sfo runways 28L&right do not have adequate separation for simultaneous lndgs. Missed approach and return were uneventful.

Title: MD80 FLC MADE A GAR AFTER THE SPACING LOOKED LESS THAN DESIRED ON A VISUAL APCH FOR SFO PARALLEL RWYS WITH A B757. THEY WERE ALSO CONCERNED ABOUT POSSIBLE WAKE TURB FROM THE B757.

Narrative: WE WERE ON VECTORS FOR L DOWNWIND RWY 28L SFO. B757 VECTORS FOR RWY 28R. APCH TURNED US IN AND TOLD US TO KEEP THE SPD UP AS WE WERE #1 FOR RWY 28L AND HE WANTED US IN FRONT OF THE B757. ASSIGNED 180 KTS OR GREATER TO BRIJJ, B757 WAS ASKED TO SLOW TO 135 KTS. WE FLEW 200 KTS TO BRIJJ AND STAYED L OF CTRLINE TO MAINTAIN ACFT SEPARATION. B757 NEVER APPEARED TO SLOW AND CONTINUED TO STAY AHEAD OF US AS HE ANGLED IN FROM THE BAY. 1000 FT AGL BOTH ACFT WERE APCHING EACH RWY ALMOST ABEAM EACH OTHER. WE ELECTED TO GO AROUND AS SFO RWYS 28L&R DO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE SEPARATION FOR SIMULTANEOUS LNDGS. MISSED APCH AND RETURN WERE UNEVENTFUL.
