Narrative:
In level cruise at approximately 100 mph, experienced buffeting and loud rumbling. Aircraft responded well to control input but lost airspeed. I made a precautionary off-airport landing. Once safely shut down, I inspected the aircraft and found the fuselage fabric had separated from the windscreen and had frayed and billowed up to the back of the front seats. After riding to town with a local resident, I returned with an a&P/ai and we taped the fabric down. I made a soft field takeoff and flew to F55 where I left the plane with the a&P for permanent repairs. I believe I made a wise choice in landing immediately, but once I could see the damage, I now feel I could have safely flown the 8 or 9 mi to F55.
