Narrative:
On pwring back to descend from cruise, and while crossing 2500 ft, I noticed a flickering light on panel under 'altitude.' annunciator functioned normally, engine behaved normally, temperature, oil and fuel pressures normal. No apparent effect on operation. Light eventually went out. This distraction me from navigation while approaching airport. Did not report to controller, as problem appeared gone. Landing and taxi uneventful, other than being chewed out by tower. Intend to have problem looked into by aircraft mechanic prior to next flight.
