Narrative:
Just a note regarding an item that most pilots might be unaware of. At lax, on taxiway east, en route to runway 24L, there is a 'yellow and black' striped hold line on taxiway east, just as you approach the end of runway 24L, on the north complex. Most pilots might be looking for the standard 'double solid yellow' hold line, but the 'black yellow' dashed line may not be as noticeable. It also is a hold short taxiway line. ATC often clears aircraft to taxi to runway 24L via taxiway east, and pilots tend to taxi right up to the end of runway 24L, not noticing the taxi hold line (dashed black and yellow line) well before the standard, 'solid double yellow' line at the approach end of runway 24L. In light of the runway incursion program of educating pilots, perhaps, ATC should specify hold short 'expectations' when issuing taxi clrncs, so that there is no confusion on taxi holding points. Also, this holding point should be better 'emphasized' on the commercial chart for lax.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: B757-200 CAPT CONCERNED WITH NONSTANDARD RWY HOLD SHORT MARKING AT LAX, ON TXWY E, FOR RWY 24L AND LAX TWR'S ASSUMPTION THAT PLTS ARE AWARE OF THE CONDITION EXPECTATION.
Narrative: JUST A NOTE REGARDING AN ITEM THAT MOST PLTS MIGHT BE UNAWARE OF. AT LAX, ON TXWY E, ENRTE TO RWY 24L, THERE IS A 'YELLOW AND BLACK' STRIPED HOLD LINE ON TXWY E, JUST AS YOU APCH THE END OF RWY 24L, ON THE N COMPLEX. MOST PLTS MIGHT BE LOOKING FOR THE STANDARD 'DOUBLE SOLID YELLOW' HOLD LINE, BUT THE 'BLACK YELLOW' DASHED LINE MAY NOT BE AS NOTICEABLE. IT ALSO IS A HOLD SHORT TXWY LINE. ATC OFTEN CLRS ACFT TO TAXI TO RWY 24L VIA TXWY E, AND PLTS TEND TO TAXI RIGHT UP TO THE END OF RWY 24L, NOT NOTICING THE TAXI HOLD LINE (DASHED BLACK AND YELLOW LINE) WELL BEFORE THE STANDARD, 'SOLID DOUBLE YELLOW' LINE AT THE APCH END OF RWY 24L. IN LIGHT OF THE RWY INCURSION PROGRAM OF EDUCATING PLTS, PERHAPS, ATC SHOULD SPECIFY HOLD SHORT 'EXPECTATIONS' WHEN ISSUING TAXI CLRNCS, SO THAT THERE IS NO CONFUSION ON TAXI HOLDING POINTS. ALSO, THIS HOLDING POINT SHOULD BE BETTER 'EMPHASIZED' ON THE COMMERCIAL CHART FOR LAX.
