Narrative:

Takeoff runway 25 almost exited runway near V1 as first officer (flying) rudder application insufficient to hold runway. I (captain) took over control of aircraft near V1 and returned aircraft to centerline and continued to takeoff, returning aircraft to first officer after stable in climb. After taking over control, I did not think we were going to stay on runway for a couple of seconds. Once control established, almost aborted as saw we were still V1, 5 KTS but runway looked kinda short now so continued takeoff. Thoughts: first officer looked tentative at takeoff. Should have inquired more. He seemed unsure. I thought we had bought it! Supplemental information from acn 517149: day, VMC takeoff roll on hkg runway 25L, first officer was flying, I was relief pilot directly behind flying first officer. Left to right crosswind of about 15 KTS. Takeoff roll seemed normal until approaching V1, we quickly began to veer to the left and left wing came up significantly. I glanced at first officer's control input and saw about 20 degrees of yolk displacement to the right. The aircraft got airborne briefly, then straightened out, moved back to centerline and landed again, continuing the takeoff roll, now above V1 but below vr. The aircraft rotated at vr and flew away.

Title: B747-400 FO LOST CTL OF THE ACFT ON A XWIND TKOF AT VHHH.

Narrative: TKOF RWY 25 ALMOST EXITED RWY NEAR V1 AS FO (FLYING) RUDDER APPLICATION INSUFFICIENT TO HOLD RWY. I (CAPT) TOOK OVER CTL OF ACFT NEAR V1 AND RETURNED ACFT TO CTRLINE AND CONTINUED TO TKOF, RETURNING ACFT TO FO AFTER STABLE IN CLB. AFTER TAKING OVER CTL, I DID NOT THINK WE WERE GOING TO STAY ON RWY FOR A COUPLE OF SECONDS. I GLANCED AT FO'S CTL INPUT AND SAW ABOUT 20 DEGS OF YOLK DISPLACEMENT TO THE R. THE ACFT GOT AIRBORNE BRIEFLY, THEN STRAIGHTENED OUT, MOVED BACK TO CTRLINE AND LANDED AGAIN, CONTINUING THE TKOF ROLL, NOW ABOVE V1 BUT BELOW VR. THE ACFT ROTATED AT VR AND FLEW AWAY.
