Air Traffic Incident | Pilot Deviation |
Narrative:
Received IFR clearance (mcminnville FSS) and entered clouds at 6000 ft (1580 ft AGL). Flew through V25 (eastbound) approximately 10 NM deviation. No traffic in area, but ATC was understandably critical -- single pilot IMC climb with icing during climb distraction my navigation focus. I reported position and correcting action to ATC.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A BE-35 PLT ACCIDENTALLY DEVIATES OFF COURSE OFF WHILE IMC.
Narrative: RECEIVED IFR CLRNC (MCMINNVILLE FSS) AND ENTERED CLOUDS AT 6000 FT (1580 FT AGL). FLEW THROUGH V25 (EBOUND) APPROX 10 NM DEV. NO TFC IN AREA, BUT ATC WAS UNDERSTANDABLY CRITICAL -- SINGLE PLT IMC CLB WITH ICING DURING CLB DISTR MY NAV FOCUS. I REPORTED POSITION AND CORRECTING ACTION TO ATC.
