Narrative:
During taxi out, we had a 'flight spoiler fault status' light come on. We called ZZZ maintenance and was instructed to park the aircraft and completely power down to reset the fault. We made a PA to the passenger and told them that we were working with air carrier maintenance and proceeded to shut down the aircraft with the main cabin door open in case we had to evacuate/evacuation the aircraft. This power down worked and we continued to our destination without any further problems. After we got going, I started to question whether what we did was legal or not. I have done this before, but only when we were at the gate, prior to pushback. This occurred a few weeks after I returned from a 90 day strike and I felt somewhat pressured to 'make the flight' and not inconvenience the passenger. This 'flight spoiler fault' is a common glitch that is usually cleared up by pwring down and allowing the computer to reset.

Title: A CL65 PIC SHUTS DOWN HIS ENGS WHILE TAXIING OUT FOR TKOF TO ALLOW A COMPUTER AUTO RESET TO EXTINGUISH THE FLT SPOILER FAULT STATUS WARNING LIGHT AT PIT, PA.
Narrative: DURING TAXI OUT, WE HAD A 'FLT SPOILER FAULT STATUS' LIGHT COME ON. WE CALLED ZZZ MAINT AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO PARK THE ACFT AND COMPLETELY PWR DOWN TO RESET THE FAULT. WE MADE A PA TO THE PAX AND TOLD THEM THAT WE WERE WORKING WITH ACR MAINT AND PROCEEDED TO SHUT DOWN THE ACFT WITH THE MAIN CABIN DOOR OPEN IN CASE WE HAD TO EVAC THE ACFT. THIS PWR DOWN WORKED AND WE CONTINUED TO OUR DEST WITHOUT ANY FURTHER PROBS. AFTER WE GOT GOING, I STARTED TO QUESTION WHETHER WHAT WE DID WAS LEGAL OR NOT. I HAVE DONE THIS BEFORE, BUT ONLY WHEN WE WERE AT THE GATE, PRIOR TO PUSHBACK. THIS OCCURRED A FEW WKS AFTER I RETURNED FROM A 90 DAY STRIKE AND I FELT SOMEWHAT PRESSURED TO 'MAKE THE FLT' AND NOT INCONVENIENCE THE PAX. THIS 'FLT SPOILER FAULT' IS A COMMON GLITCH THAT IS USUALLY CLRED UP BY PWRING DOWN AND ALLOWING THE COMPUTER TO RESET.
