Narrative:

We were inbound at XA30. First officer flying. Bay approach turned us in tight for ILS runway 28R well above GS. First officer tried unsuccessfully to capture GS from above. Still outside brijj, aircraft captured MCP altitude and began to slow. Speed slowed to 5-10 KTS below reference before first officer was able to disconnect autoplt and recover. In retrospect, I should have taken control of the aircraft. Main cause was bay's inappropriate vectoring to the ILS above the GS which they do all the time. There was no other traffic and this was an unnecessary high dive. Bad procedure for XA30 arrival.
