Narrative:
Flight was assigned the fairfield 5 instrument departure, milford transition. The route was loaded into the FMS and checked preflight. After landing, slc ground changed the assigned runway and the new runway was input into the FMS. Approximately 10 NM south of ffu, slc asked where we were going. FMS showed us proceeding directly to mlf instead of the SID routing. We turned left and intercepted the SID. Not certain when the departure routing got dropped out of the FMS. I suspect the departure routing got dropped when the assigned runway changed. A possible complication was an autospoiler fail message that appeared just prior to the incident.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: AN MD90 CREW DEPARTING SLC HAD THE WRONG SID TRANSITION PROGRAMMED INTO THE FMS. ACFT WAS PROCEEDING DIRECT TO MLF INSTEAD OF FLYING THE TRANSITION.
Narrative: FLT WAS ASSIGNED THE FAIRFIELD 5 INST DEP, MILFORD TRANSITION. THE RTE WAS LOADED INTO THE FMS AND CHKED PREFLT. AFTER LNDG, SLC GND CHANGED THE ASSIGNED RWY AND THE NEW RWY WAS INPUT INTO THE FMS. APPROX 10 NM S OF FFU, SLC ASKED WHERE WE WERE GOING. FMS SHOWED US PROCEEDING DIRECTLY TO MLF INSTEAD OF THE SID ROUTING. WE TURNED L AND INTERCEPTED THE SID. NOT CERTAIN WHEN THE DEP ROUTING GOT DROPPED OUT OF THE FMS. I SUSPECT THE DEP ROUTING GOT DROPPED WHEN THE ASSIGNED RWY CHANGED. A POSSIBLE COMPLICATION WAS AN AUTOSPOILER FAIL MESSAGE THAT APPEARED JUST PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT.
