Narrative:
The florida DOT has installed a light tower at the new construction for I-4. The approach (VFR) to runway 36 only clears this tower by 50 ft if you are on glide path per VASI's. I fly out of vandenberg, but was not aware of this tower until it was briefed at the quarterly safety meeting. DOT should make other arrangements to light this area of the interstate. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter obtained information from FSDO confirming obstruction lighting met FAA standards. A hillsborough county airport official stated that the highway intersection lighting poles met FAA standards, exceeding the 20:1 glide path projection. The vdf VASI lights glide path angle was changed from 3 degrees to 3.4 degrees. The poles were actually dropped from 142 ft MSL to 140 ft MSL. The hillsborough county airports division added red obstruction lights to the poles. The official believes this light addition is what is causing the perception that the new lighting poles are higher than the original poles.

Title: GA PLT CONCERNED BY NEW INTERSTATE HWY INTXN LIGHTING AND ITS LOCATION IN PROX TO RWY 36 AT VDF ARPT.
Narrative: THE FLORIDA DOT HAS INSTALLED A LIGHT TWR AT THE NEW CONSTRUCTION FOR I-4. THE APCH (VFR) TO RWY 36 ONLY CLRS THIS TWR BY 50 FT IF YOU ARE ON GLIDE PATH PER VASI'S. I FLY OUT OF VANDENBERG, BUT WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS TWR UNTIL IT WAS BRIEFED AT THE QUARTERLY SAFETY MEETING. DOT SHOULD MAKE OTHER ARRANGEMENTS TO LIGHT THIS AREA OF THE INTERSTATE. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR OBTAINED INFO FROM FSDO CONFIRMING OBSTRUCTION LIGHTING MET FAA STANDARDS. A HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY ARPT OFFICIAL STATED THAT THE HWY INTXN LIGHTING POLES MET FAA STANDARDS, EXCEEDING THE 20:1 GLIDE PATH PROJECTION. THE VDF VASI LIGHTS GLIDE PATH ANGLE WAS CHANGED FROM 3 DEGS TO 3.4 DEGS. THE POLES WERE ACTUALLY DROPPED FROM 142 FT MSL TO 140 FT MSL. THE HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY ARPTS DIVISION ADDED RED OBSTRUCTION LIGHTS TO THE POLES. THE OFFICIAL BELIEVES THIS LIGHT ADDITION IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE PERCEPTION THAT THE NEW LIGHTING POLES ARE HIGHER THAN THE ORIGINAL POLES.
