Narrative:
During preflight, about 1 min prior to pushback, the captain noticed the electrical light on the electrical panel was illuminated. He called for maintenance who tried to reset the system several times. After no success, maintenance said we would have to shut the aircraft completely down to reset the system. The captain had the passenger (about 40-50) deplane into the jetway prior to shutting the aircraft down. After the aircraft was pwred back up, it appeared the problem was fixed. The passenger were allowed back on the aircraft. The electrical light illuminated again and maintenance said they would have to de-power the aircraft again. The captain mentioned that he would have to deplane the passenger again and the maintenance technician said other pilots usually leave them on. The captain decided to leave the passenger on the aircraft with the power off. The part was replaced, the aircraft pwred up and the problem was fixed. I believe the maintenance tech led the captain into doing something he wouldn't have done otherwise.

Title: B737 FLT CREW HAS AN ELECTRICAL PWR WARNING LIGHT WHILE PARKED AT THE GATE AND ARE UNSURE OF THE PROCS THAT ARE REQUIRED CONCERNING THE DEPLANING OF PAX.
Narrative: DURING PREFLT, ABOUT 1 MIN PRIOR TO PUSHBACK, THE CAPT NOTICED THE ELECTRICAL LIGHT ON THE ELECTRICAL PANEL WAS ILLUMINATED. HE CALLED FOR MAINT WHO TRIED TO RESET THE SYS SEVERAL TIMES. AFTER NO SUCCESS, MAINT SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO SHUT THE ACFT COMPLETELY DOWN TO RESET THE SYS. THE CAPT HAD THE PAX (ABOUT 40-50) DEPLANE INTO THE JETWAY PRIOR TO SHUTTING THE ACFT DOWN. AFTER THE ACFT WAS PWRED BACK UP, IT APPEARED THE PROB WAS FIXED. THE PAX WERE ALLOWED BACK ON THE ACFT. THE ELECTRICAL LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN AND MAINT SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO DE-POWER THE ACFT AGAIN. THE CAPT MENTIONED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO DEPLANE THE PAX AGAIN AND THE MAINT TECHNICIAN SAID OTHER PLTS USUALLY LEAVE THEM ON. THE CAPT DECIDED TO LEAVE THE PAX ON THE ACFT WITH THE PWR OFF. THE PART WAS REPLACED, THE ACFT PWRED UP AND THE PROB WAS FIXED. I BELIEVE THE MAINT TECH LED THE CAPT INTO DOING SOMETHING HE WOULDN'T HAVE DONE OTHERWISE.
