Primary Problem | Aircraft |
Narrative:
Airspeed appeared to be working properly in ranges but difficulty in acceleration and increase in landing distance and takeoff distance and altimeter indications. First actions were to clean pitot head. Debris was found. A test flight after still showed the same problem. Further investigation revealed a loose bracket which allowed pitot and static lines to be crimped by armament door hinges. Possible erroneous airspeed indications and altitude indications. Aircraft was operated day VFR.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A LOCKHEED T33 RPTED AIRSPD AND ALTIMETER ERRORS DUE TO CRIMPED PITOT STATIC LINES CAUSED BY THE ARMAMENT DOOR HINGES.
Narrative: AIRSPD APPEARED TO BE WORKING PROPERLY IN RANGES BUT DIFFICULTY IN ACCELERATION AND INCREASE IN LNDG DISTANCE AND TKOF DISTANCE AND ALTIMETER INDICATIONS. FIRST ACTIONS WERE TO CLEAN PITOT HEAD. DEBRIS WAS FOUND. A TEST FLT AFTER STILL SHOWED THE SAME PROB. FURTHER INVESTIGATION REVEALED A LOOSE BRACKET WHICH ALLOWED PITOT AND STATIC LINES TO BE CRIMPED BY ARMAMENT DOOR HINGES. POSSIBLE ERRONEOUS AIRSPD INDICATIONS AND ALT INDICATIONS. ACFT WAS OPERATED DAY VFR.
