Narrative:
On rotation at sna, felt abrupt momentary yaw. No other indications. Engines were normal, wind 230/7, no preceding aircraft. Notice FOD reported on runway. Proceeded to destination with no other problems. Wrote up in maintenance log. Aircraft was removed from service and taken to hanger. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the airplane was a B737-700 and, on rotation, had abrupt momentary rudder induced yaw. The reporter said no other factors appeared to contribute to the yaw. The reporter stated the airplane was removed from service and maintenance replaced the yaw computer and a successful test flight was accomplished. The reporter said the flight recorder was also removed and read to rule out the yaw being pilot induced. The reporter stated the yaw proved not to be induced by the crew.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: A B737-700 ON ROTATION EXPERIENCED ABRUPT MOMENTARY RUDDER YAW. ENGS NORMAL, NO PRECEDING ACFT. REPLACED YAW COMPUTER.
Narrative: ON ROTATION AT SNA, FELT ABRUPT MOMENTARY YAW. NO OTHER INDICATIONS. ENGS WERE NORMAL, WIND 230/7, NO PRECEDING ACFT. NOTICE FOD RPTED ON RWY. PROCEEDED TO DEST WITH NO OTHER PROBS. WROTE UP IN MAINT LOG. ACFT WAS REMOVED FROM SVC AND TAKEN TO HANGER. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE AIRPLANE WAS A B737-700 AND, ON ROTATION, HAD ABRUPT MOMENTARY RUDDER INDUCED YAW. THE RPTR SAID NO OTHER FACTORS APPEARED TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE YAW. THE RPTR STATED THE AIRPLANE WAS REMOVED FROM SVC AND MAINT REPLACED THE YAW COMPUTER AND A SUCCESSFUL TEST FLT WAS ACCOMPLISHED. THE RPTR SAID THE FLT RECORDER WAS ALSO REMOVED AND READ TO RULE OUT THE YAW BEING PLT INDUCED. THE RPTR STATED THE YAW PROVED NOT TO BE INDUCED BY THE CREW.
