Narrative:
Medical emergency/unauthorized person in cockpit. Flying as PIC on flight abc, aus-rdu, the 'a' flight attendant informed me that she had a 70 yr old female passenger going in and out of consciousness. The flight attendant told me they were going to put the passenger on oxygen and call company contracted medical advisor through the cabin phone system. Shortly after that the 'a' flight attendant told me she couldn't get the cabin phone system to work and requested me to get a patch through dispatch. Calling dispatch through the atscall system, they patched us through to the doctor. I passed along all the information I had on the passenger and informed the doctor that we had a nurse onboard that was assisting the ill passenger. The doctor indicated to me he needed more information and requested to talk directly to the nurse. Being in a non critical phase of flight (cruise) I felt it was necessary for the doctor to talk to the nurse so he could make an informed judgement on the condition of our passenger. I had the nurse come onto the flight deck and talk directly to the doctor on the aircraft radio. They came to the consensus that the passenger was stable enough to continue to rdu where they would have paramedics standing by.
