Narrative:

We were cleared for a visual approach to runway 29. I used the flight spoilers in the descent and forgot to retract them. I was distraction looking for the airport and did not notice the stall tape coming up on the speed tape. When I turned base, I got the stick shaker. I added power and the first officer retracted the spoilers. When I turned final we were too high, and initiated a go around. There are several things that led up to this event: 1) this was a new airport for me to fly into. 2) I didn't preplan my approach. 3) it was at night and I did not call for the runway lights to be turned up. 4) flight spoilers. 5) I did not do a stall recovery like I was trained to do. 6) the first officer had been to this airport before. I should have let him fly that leg.
