Narrative:
Loss of engine. Emergency declared. XA30. Start, taxi, takeoff normal. First officer flying. On climb out, approaching 7000 ft, left engine ceased to make power. Master caution illuminated, left generator dropped off, left oil pressure zero, left N3 zero. Rotation indication continued on N1 and N2. Egt decreasing, oil quantity normal. No fire lights. Captain declared an emergency, first officer continued to fly and communicate with ATC as previously briefed. Crew proceeded through engine failure checklist, expanded engine fire checklist in company book, 1 engine approach and go around procedure, reviewed emergency landing procedure, and discussed cabin condition with flight attendants. Notified company. Finished before landing checklist. Touched down overweight at 219000 pounds. Touchdown was smooth, on speed, less than 300 FPM rate of descent. Soft nose gear touchdown. Emergency was terminated. Taxi in to gate was uneventful. Total time single engine was approximately 10-12 mins. Would like to commend first officer on an excellent job flying and communicating. Done in a textbook manner, timely, unhurried, safely, professionally. Excellent cooperation and communication with approach, tower, operations, and crew.
