Narrative:
During climb after takeoff runway 9L at ord, the crew alerting system posted a 'generator #2 off' caution message. After cleaning up aircraft on schedule and leveling off at 5000 ft, the crew referred to the QRH for guidance. At this point, the aircraft was in a single generator confign. The sic was flying the aircraft, and the PIC as PNF proceeded to reset generator #2 in accordance with the QRH, but mistakenly moved the wrong generator switch (generator #1), causing deployment of the air driven generator. We corrected the situation by bringing both main generators back on line. Returned to ord for maintenance. Contributing human factors: high density air traffic environment. PIC's failure to properly identify and verify correct generator switch, and failure to delay corrective action in a situation where time was not a critical factor.

Title: CL65 CAPT INADVERTENTLY EXTENDED THE AIR DRIVEN GENERATOR WHEN FOLLOWING THE QRH FOR A GENERATOR OUT INDICATION. A RETURN TO LAND FOR MAINT WAS MADE IN ORDER TO PROPERLY CORRECT THE GENERATOR PROBS.
Narrative: DURING CLB AFTER TKOF RWY 9L AT ORD, THE CREW ALERTING SYS POSTED A 'GENERATOR #2 OFF' CAUTION MESSAGE. AFTER CLEANING UP ACFT ON SCHEDULE AND LEVELING OFF AT 5000 FT, THE CREW REFERRED TO THE QRH FOR GUIDANCE. AT THIS POINT, THE ACFT WAS IN A SINGLE GENERATOR CONFIGN. THE SIC WAS FLYING THE ACFT, AND THE PIC AS PNF PROCEEDED TO RESET GENERATOR #2 IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE QRH, BUT MISTAKENLY MOVED THE WRONG GENERATOR SWITCH (GENERATOR #1), CAUSING DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR DRIVEN GENERATOR. WE CORRECTED THE SIT BY BRINGING BOTH MAIN GENERATORS BACK ON LINE. RETURNED TO ORD FOR MAINT. CONTRIBUTING HUMAN FACTORS: HIGH DENSITY AIR TFC ENVIRONMENT. PIC'S FAILURE TO PROPERLY IDENT AND VERIFY CORRECT GENERATOR SWITCH, AND FAILURE TO DELAY CORRECTIVE ACTION IN A SIT WHERE TIME WAS NOT A CRITICAL FACTOR.
