Narrative:
On the morning of 9/wed/01, I was watching the tv news and the commentator stated that commercial flts would resume at XA00. Hearing this, I assumed the no-fly ban had been lifted and decided to fly 20 miles from a private strip to ZZZ to gas up the waco. It was VFR, so I saw no need to call flight service for this short flight. Unknown to me, I had violated the no-fly ban. I have been contacted by the FAA and submitted a letter to them explaining the circumstance of the violation. I realize now that I should have called flight service instead of assuming something I saw on tv was factual.
