Narrative:
We left rapid city to denver. The first officer copied the clearance and was told cleared as filed. He loaded the FMS with our standard flight plan. However, dispatch had refiled us for a different route because of WX. Neither one of us caught the different first fix. The rest of the flight plan was basically the same. On takeoff tower gave us a heading to our normal first fix. Only on the handoff to ellsworth did we realize they expected us to go to a different fix. Obviously, we should have been more vigilant checking the flight plan, but I feel and in fact I have imparted to dispatch that when they change the flight plan, there should be no surprises and maybe the release should be flagged or we should be notified by phone, something out of the ordinary.

Title: A DIFFERENT THAN NORMAL RTE IS FILED BY DISPATCH BECAUSE OF WX. THE FLT CREW DOES NOT NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE UNTIL CONFUSION OVER ROUTING OCCURS DURING THE HDOF TO DEP CTL.
