Narrative:
On climb out, we missed our assigned altitude of 2000 ft MSL and realized and corrected at 2600 ft MSL. The flight director dropped off the altitude mode and did not chime the 1000 ft alarm. The flight director showed a nose-up climb at 2600 ft MSL. The first officer was returning from a 2 week vacation and was fumbling with the after takeoff checklist. I was distracted by him and allowed the altitude to deviate and lost my attention from the flight director.

Title: ERRONEOUS INDICATIONS FROM THE FLT DIRECTOR AND A DISTRACTING FO ARE GIVEN AS THE REASONS FOR AN ALT OVERSHOOT.
Narrative: ON CLBOUT, WE MISSED OUR ASSIGNED ALT OF 2000 FT MSL AND REALIZED AND CORRECTED AT 2600 FT MSL. THE FLT DIRECTOR DROPPED OFF THE ALT MODE AND DID NOT CHIME THE 1000 FT ALARM. THE FLT DIRECTOR SHOWED A NOSE-UP CLB AT 2600 FT MSL. THE FO WAS RETURNING FROM A 2 WK VACATION AND WAS FUMBLING WITH THE AFTER TKOF CHKLIST. I WAS DISTRACTED BY HIM AND ALLOWED THE ALT TO DEVIATE AND LOST MY ATTN FROM THE FLT DIRECTOR.
