Narrative:
ATC advised us to 'cross beauty at 10000 ft MSL' when level at 13000 ft. We had about 10 mi to go prior to initiating descent in order to make the restr. We got distracted picking up the new ATIS at la guardia (it was the top of the hour) and ATC called us as we were crossing beauty intersection and asked us if we were descending. We initiated an immediate descent to 10000 ft and were level at 10000 ft MSL within 2-3 mi the other side of the fix. (Should have initiated a gradual descent to make the crossing restr, since we were preoccupied with another task.)

Title: A FLT CREW GETS DISTRACTED GETTING THE ATIS WHICH RESULTS IN A XING RESTR NOT BEING MET.
Narrative: ATC ADVISED US TO 'CROSS BEAUTY AT 10000 FT MSL' WHEN LEVEL AT 13000 FT. WE HAD ABOUT 10 MI TO GO PRIOR TO INITIATING DSCNT IN ORDER TO MAKE THE RESTR. WE GOT DISTRACTED PICKING UP THE NEW ATIS AT LA GUARDIA (IT WAS THE TOP OF THE HR) AND ATC CALLED US AS WE WERE XING BEAUTY INTXN AND ASKED US IF WE WERE DSNDING. WE INITIATED AN IMMEDIATE DSCNT TO 10000 FT AND WERE LEVEL AT 10000 FT MSL WITHIN 2-3 MI THE OTHER SIDE OF THE FIX. (SHOULD HAVE INITIATED A GRADUAL DSCNT TO MAKE THE XING RESTR, SINCE WE WERE PREOCCUPIED WITH ANOTHER TASK.)
