Narrative:
On descent to 6000 ft for approach west of lax for runway 6L, ATC changed runway to runway 7R. Captain was hand-flying and descended to approximately 5400 ft before starting back to 6000 ft. ATC questioned our assigned altitude and requested us to descend to 4000 ft. As first officer I was retuning the FMC for the correct ILS frequency and runway (our only option) and the captain was distracted with his approach plate change. Both of us missed the leveloff assigned altitude. Factors: late night, all night flying, hand-flying, distractions with runway change and getting approach plate out. Only way to tune and get ILS frequency is in the FMC box. The captain should have concentrated on flying the aircraft and let his first officer work the runway change in the FMC. As first officer I was new to the right seat and the captain felt he had to back me up. If so, don't hand fly, put it on the autoplt.

Title: A LAST MIN RWY CHANGE AT LAX PROVIDES THE BEGINNING OF MULTIPLE DISTRACTIONS THAT BECOME TOO MUCH FOR A CREW WITH A RELATIVELY NEW FO AT THE END OF THE ALL NIGHT LONG RANGE FLT. AN ALT OVERSHOOT DURING DSCNT OCCURS.
Narrative: ON DSCNT TO 6000 FT FOR APCH W OF LAX FOR RWY 6L, ATC CHANGED RWY TO RWY 7R. CAPT WAS HAND-FLYING AND DSNDED TO APPROX 5400 FT BEFORE STARTING BACK TO 6000 FT. ATC QUESTIONED OUR ASSIGNED ALT AND REQUESTED US TO DSND TO 4000 FT. AS FO I WAS RETUNING THE FMC FOR THE CORRECT ILS FREQ AND RWY (OUR ONLY OPTION) AND THE CAPT WAS DISTRACTED WITH HIS APCH PLATE CHANGE. BOTH OF US MISSED THE LEVELOFF ASSIGNED ALT.
