Received holding clearance, but what we thought we were to do and what the controller thought we were going to do were different, and there was no published hold at the VOR to doublechk against. Controller let us know what he intended and that there was no problem.

Title: A MISUNDERSTANDING OF A HOLDING INSTRUCTION OVER THE FWA VORTAC.
Narrative: RECEIVED HOLDING CLRNC, BUT WHAT WE THOUGHT WE WERE TO DO AND WHAT THE CTLR THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO DO WERE DIFFERENT, AND THERE WAS NO PUBLISHED HOLD AT THE VOR TO DOUBLECHK AGAINST. CTLR LET US KNOW WHAT HE INTENDED AND THAT THERE WAS NO PROB.
