Narrative:
During descent into dfw on the CQY5 arrival, regional approach instructed us to cross howdy at and maintain 11000 ft. They also called traffic to us at ten O'clock and asked if we had the traffic is sight. We did see the traffic and called it in sight. The controller instructed us to maintain visual separation from the traffic. This traffic was in a descent to 9000 ft. While keeping the traffic in sight and descending in a timely manner to make our crossing restriction, we got a reduce vertical speed warning from TCAS. We informed ATC that we got the warning and that we were adjusting our descent. He replied that we were supposed to maintain visual separation. We did have a visual on the traffic at all times and it passed 1000 ft below our aircraft.

Title: S80 FLC ADVISE THAT THEY ARE ACTING ON A TCAS ALERT AFTER BEING ASSIGNED VISUAL SEPARATION WITH ANOTHER ACFT UNDER D10 CTL.
Narrative: DURING DSCNT INTO DFW ON THE CQY5 ARRIVAL, REGIONAL APCH INSTRUCTED US TO CROSS HOWDY AT AND MAINTAIN 11000 FT. THEY ALSO CALLED TFC TO US AT TEN O'CLOCK AND ASKED IF WE HAD THE TFC IS SIGHT. WE DID SEE THE TFC AND CALLED IT IN SIGHT. THE CTLR INSTRUCTED US TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION FROM THE TFC. THIS TFC WAS IN A DSCNT TO 9000 FT. WHILE KEEPING THE TFC IN SIGHT AND DSNDING IN A TIMELY MANNER TO MAKE OUR CROSSING RESTRICTION, WE GOT A REDUCE VERTICAL SPEED WARNING FROM TCAS. WE INFORMED ATC THAT WE GOT THE WARNING AND THAT WE WERE ADJUSTING OUR DSCNT. HE REPLIED THAT WE WERE SUPPOSED TO MAINTAIN VISUAL SEPARATION. WE DID HAVE A VISUAL ON THE TFC AT ALL TIMES AND IT PASSED 1000 FT BELOW OUR ACFT.
